1/2 cup butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup milk, or more if softer consistency is desired
2 cups powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter in saucepan.
Stir in brown sugar, heat until boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir over low heat 2 minutes.
Stir in milk and heat until boiling.
Remove from heat and cool to warm.

Stir in powdered sugar gradually. Beat until spreading consistency and spread on cake.

I remember Mom making this recipe out of the Betty Crocker cookbook and spreading it on a spice cake from a box mix. Grandma Anna Schroeder was there that day and she asked for the recipe so she could make it too. I use this recipe for my Apple Cake.
