Directions:
In a large bowl, mix salt, sugar, butter and scalded milk. Let cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to milk mixture when cooled. Mix in 3 c. flour and stir until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise. Add whole egg and enough flour to form a kneadable dough. Let rise again. Roll out on a floured surface until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with a biscuit cutter and press into an oval shape. Place in a buttered pan and let rise until light. Mix egg white and vanilla together in a small bowl and brush tops of buns with egg white mixture. Prick buns 2-3 times with a fork and bake in a moderate oven for about 20 minutes.
