1 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup regular oats
1 (8 ounce) package chopped dates

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening. Add sugar. Beat well. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Combine dry ingredients and add and mix. Stir in oats and dates. Drop by teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10 - 12 minutes. Centers will be soft.
Yield: 5-1/2 dozen cookies.
