8 slices challah bread
2 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cardamom
1 tsp orange extract
Zest from one orange
2 cups milk
1 cup half & half

In a large bowl, beat the eggs.
Add sugar, salt and cardamom - mix well.
Add all items (except bread) and mix well.
Cut 8 slices challah bread about one inch thick.
Dip the bread slices into the egg batter.
Add 1 tsp butter and 1 tsp canola oil to a skillet. Melt butter.
Cook the bread slices in a heavy skillet.
Allow bread to brown on one side, then flip to brown on the other side.
To serve, put on a plate, dust with powdered sugar. Serve with maple syrup and butter.
