Old-Time Soft Sugar Cookies Recipe

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt

1/4 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400. Cream together shortening, sugar and brown sugar. Mix in egg, then the buttermilk and vanilla. Combine the dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough for 1 hour. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls 2" apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Combine topping ingredients and sprinkle on top of cookie dough. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until set. Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies.
