1 cup Butter
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Icing Sugar
1 Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
2 1/2 cups Flour
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Red Food Colouring
1/2 cup Peppermint Candy Canes, crushed
1/2 cup Sugar for decoration

Directions:
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, cream together the margarine, sugar and icing sugar. Beat in the egg, vanilla and peppermint extract. Combine the flour and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until well blended. Cover and wrap dough and chill for at least one hour.
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Divide dough into halves. Colour one half red by adding the red food colouring.. Roll small amounts of dough into 2 inch long worm-like portions. Roll the red and the plain dough together in twisted ropes and curve the ends like candy canes. Place unto cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 8-10 minutes. In a small bowl, mix together the crushed candy cane and remaining sugar. Sprinkle on hot cookies.
