2 1/2 cup or 1 1/2 pound box large seeded raisins
1 cup dates
2 cup boiling water
2 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 pound dark brown sugar (note-use 1 pound)
3 1/2 cup sifted flour
4 eggs
1/4 cup oil
1 tsp salt
4 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour hot water over raisins and dates. Let stand.
Mix flour, salt and nuts.
Mix sugar and eggs together. Add oil and vanilla.
Add "enough" boiling water to soda and put into raisins and date mixture. Add flour mixture to date mixture, alternating with sugar/egg mixture.
Pour into well into 8 greased cans about 3/4 full.
Bake 350º for 1 hour.
Test towards end. "too long baking makes it dry out"
