3 cups bread cubes, heels are good, best bread is a day or two old.
Butter
2 cups flour
1 egg (beaten)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp milk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the bread cubes and butter. Mix well.
Brown the bread cubes in butter on stove.
Add other ingredients to the mixture and mix well.
Dough will be sticky. Flour your hands to work with it.
Work on a floured board.
Roll and cut in half.

Make tennis ball sized dumplings or slightly smaller.
Drop into boiling water. Boil 25 to 30 minutes.

A good test is to make a small dumpling and test in boiling water to see if it holds together. May add more flour if too thin.
