1 cup raisins
2 cups water
1/2 scant* cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

Mix water and raisins and let boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add shortening, let cool.

Sift together sugar, flour, soda, spices and salt. Add raisin mixture, beat well. Add beaten eggs and walnuts.

Bake in muffin pan in a 350º oven for 25 minutes.
