2 eggs,beaten until light
1 cup sugar

1 cup flour
1½ tsp baking powder

½ cup milk, at boiling point
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp lemon or vanilla

Beat eggs, then beat in sugar

Sift flour and baking powder together.

Add to sugar mixture alternating with milk mixture

Bake at 375º in a prepared 8x8 pan

My mom used to bake this sponge cake as a base for
strawberry shortcake. Mmmm delicious.
