½ cup Crisco shortening
1 stick butter
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup whole milk or half and half
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Do not preheat the oven. Grease and flour a tube pan.
Cream butter, shortening and sugar.
Add one egg at a time beating after each one.
Sift flour and baking powder into creamed mixture, alternating flour mixture and milk.
Add vanilla.
Pour cake batter into tube pan.
Put cake in a cold oven and bake at 350º for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Do not open oven door unless it has been baking an hour.
Cool 10-15 minutes and remove cake from the pan.
