C shortening
1 C sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3 C flour
C buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
tsp. salt

Cream together shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
Take about half of the batter and dump on floured board. Work flour in until smooth.
Flour board again and roll out to about to inch thick.
Cut with biscuit cutter and bake on lightly greased sheet at 425 about 12 minutes.
Repeat for other half.
Note: Recipe doubles easily.
