⅓ cup firmly packed brown sugar
¼ cup butter
¼ cup walnuts

Pie pastry for double crust pie

3½ cups (4 to 5 apples) of peeled, sliced apples
¾ cup sugar
2 TBS flour
½ tsp cinnamon
Dash of nutmeg
⅛ tsp salt

Preheat oven to 400º

Sprinkle brown sugar over bottom of buttered pie pan. Melt butter and pour over brown sugar. Stir to combine well. Sprinkle walnuts over mixture.

Place lower crust on tops of walnuts- don’t break crust. Trim even with edge of pie. Add apples and fill shell.
Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and sprinkle over apples.

Place top crust over apples and trim even with edge of pan. Roll the top and bottom crusts together.
There should be no pastry attached to the rim. Prick top in 5 places with fork.

Bake at 400º for 45 minutes until golden brown. After removing from oven, run a knife around edge of pie to loosen. Hold plate over pie and flip pie onto plate.

Serve with vanilla ice cream.
