½ cup cold water
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. sugar
3 egg whites
5 Tbsp. sugar
Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 3 ingredients and cook, stirring while this cooks, until thick. Set aside to cool.
Beat egg whites until stiff, add sugar gradually, continue beating until very stiff; add cooled, cooked mixture, beating well.
Add a few drops vanilla.
Pile on pie and bake at 350º for 15-20 minutes. Open oven door, let pie remain in oven a few minutes longer before removing from oven. This helps prevent the meringue from falling.
I always double the recipe, because I always make 2 pies.
