1 cup oatmeal
1¼ cup hot water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
½ cup shortening
1½ cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2 eggs
Topping:
6 Tablespoons butter
1 Tablespoon milk
¾ cup brown sugar
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Cake:
Pour hot water over cup of oats and set aside. Cream together sugars, shortening and eggs. Mix flour, salt, soda, cinnamon and baking powder. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, add oatmeal and beat well. Pour into greased and floured 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350º for 35 minutes.
Topping:
Boil butter, milk and brown sugar for 1 minute, then add coconut and chopped pecans. Spread over hot cake and brown under broiler for 1 minute.
