Cake:
⅓ cup shortening
1½ cup sugar
2 eggs
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 to 2¼ cups pitted sour cherries #2 can
½ cup chopped nuts
Hot Cherry Sauce:
½ cup sugar
pinch of salt
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
¾ cup cherry juice
1 cup cold water
¼ teaspoon almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugars. Blend in eggs well beaten. Sift dry remaining ingredients. Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Blend in drained cherries and nuts. Pour into greased and floured pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes at 350º.
Hot Cherry Sauce:
Mix dry ingredients, add juice and water. Cook till mixture thickens add extract.
Cut into squares and serve with Hot cherry sauce.
