When I began singing with Reflections in the fall of 2010, I wasn’t sure it would work out for me. I was such an outlier from all the other women. I was prepared to be treated kindly, but not embraced. I was soon proven wrong. From the first rehearsal when Gayle and Pat took me under their arms, I felt included and valued.
As I “reflect” over the past 7 ˝ years, what I cherish most is the fact that this group has given me the opportunity to get to know so many wonderful women. I’ve enjoyed the goofy moments in rehearsal (especially dress rehearsals). I’ve appreciated each and every one for her dedication and ready willingness to work together for the good of the group. I’ve drawn strength from their genuine love and caring during times when I needed to simply know that someone cared about me. If fact, the love I feel for these women has surprised me: I truly feel an authentic sisterhood with each one of them.
I grew up in a home where music was a part of everyday life. And, as a dancer, I learned to appreciate music for different reasons. The variety of music we practice and perform has been another enjoyable – and challenging – part of Reflections.
Our accompanists, assistants and coaches have continually amazed me with their talent and their willingness to dedicate so much time for the group. They, along with the officers, are true examples of self-less giving.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work with some impressive directors over the years, but no vocal director has been as inspiring and finely nuanced as Beth. Beth is able to pull the best out of each of us and does it with such love that the gentle criticism takes a completely positive experience. Sometimes I struggle singing because of the feeling I can see in her face.

Beth is impossible to replace, but the continuation of Reflections is a living testimony of the Christ-like impact she has had on so many lives, especially mine.
