Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 C. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 C. shortening (I prefer butter - makes a crunchier crust on the biscuit)
2/3 C. milk

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl stir together the dry ingredients. Cut in the shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the centre of dry mixture and add the milk all at once. Stir with a fork just till dough clings together.
Knead gently on a lightly floured surface (10 - 12 strokes). Roll or pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2 inch cutter; dip cutter in flour between cuts. Transfer to ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450ºF. till golden brown, approximately 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 10 biscuits.

Alternatively, after the dough is the correct thickness, just cut it into squares. This will reduce waste of dough.
