1¼ cups firmly packed brown sugar
¾ stick Crisco baking sticks butter flavored shortening
2 Tablespoons milk
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 egg
1¾ cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
¾ cup milk chocolate chips
* Optional (I use 1 cup chopped pecans.)

Directions:

Heat oven to 375º. Beat brown sugar, shortening, milk and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture just until blended. Fold in chocolate chips and pecans if using. Drop by Tablespoonfuls of dough 3 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet or parchment paper. Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.

This recipe is a favorite. Made originally by my sweet sister-in-law Linda Garrett Cochran. She uses all Milk Chocolate chips and 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda instead of one teaspoon.
