1 cup butter
3-1/2 cups applesauce
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups chopped nuts
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon allspice
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Topping:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1/4 cup cornflake crumbs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Cake:
Heat butter and applesauce together in a large pan over medium heat, until butter is melted. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat. Mix and sift flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and spices. Blend in thoroughly. Fold in nuts. Pour into greased (bottom only) oblong pan, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 350º for about 45 minutes.

Topping:
Combine flour, sugar, cornflake crumbs and cinnamon. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

Note:
Uncle Joe thinks this is like Mom Richardson's recipe but Mother does not think so.
