2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tbs. vanilla
1 pkg. of German Chocolate
1 tsp. soda
1 cup Crisco
2½ cups flour
4 egg yokes and whites

Filling Ingredients:
1 large can Carnation milk
½ cup chopped pecans
1 cup coconut
3 egg yokes
1 cup white sugar
1 stick butter
Vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve chocolate in ½ cup boiling water. Beat egg whites until stiff, cream Crisco and sugar, add egg yokes that have been beaten. Add ¾ cup buttermilk & alternate with flour. Dissolve soda with remaining ¼ cup buttermilk, add pinch of salt to chocolate & water, & vanilla, fold in egg-whites. Bake in 2 , 10" pans or 2 long pans at 350º .

filling:
mix together & cook until thick, stirring constantly, milk, pecans, coconut, egg yokes, sugar, butter and vanilla.
