Directions:In a saucepan, combine white sugar, salt, half & half cream and whipping cream (both creams). Bring to a boil. In another saucepan, combine brown sugar and cornstarch. Gradually whisk in hot mixture into the brown sugar mixture. Add butter. Cook over medium heat, whisk constantly for 5 minutes or until thick. Simmer for 1 minute and stir in vanilla. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Near end of baking time, sprinkle with nutmeg and/or cinnamon (or combination). Bake at 350º-375º for about 25 minutes.
Note: 1st time I baked this, I added nutmeg/cinnamon to bake whole time-it made a large brown circle on top of pie. It wasn't pretty. Also, I would add a little more white sugar-wasn't quite as sweet as Id like. (used about 1 cup)
Note: I put foil over top (loosely) on pie during most of baking time-uncover about last 10-15 minutes (sprinkle nutmeg on last few minutes 5 or so). |

Notes: This recipe is a favorite of Jon Stuckey's, but Larry and Patty have a special fondness for it as well, and for good reason. After their wedding and reception they changed and drove to Bloomington for dinner at Grove's Restaurant. They of course topped off this special dinner with a slice of Grove's Sugar Cream Pie.
Larry has been my best friend since I was 14 and began dating him (which was just seeing him in school, sitting together at ball games and being together in group functions--that was our high school "dating". He continues to be my best friend...
