Grammy Rutter's Sugar Cookies Recipe

3 c. flour
c. shortening or margarine
1 c. sugar (it could be alittle more??)
1 egg
tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
c. sour cream
1 tsp. almond extract
tsp. vanilla extract
tsp. nutmeg

1 cube real butter ( c.)
1 lb. powered sugar (more or less to taste)
2 tsp. almond extract
Tiny dash of salt
Food coloring, (optional)

Cream the shortening and sugar until smooth. Add egg and beat until fluffy. Mix in the sour cream, almond extract and vanilla extract. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg, then add to the batter and mix just to incorporate. Do not overmix. Form dough into a ball and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate 2 hours. Divide into thirds and roll each section out to " thick. (Use a little flour on your rolling pin and surface.) Cut out cookie shapes then put the leftover dough to one side. Do remaining dough sections the same. Now take all the leftover dough and mix by hands to form one last dough ball. Roll out and cut cookie shapes until all remaining dough is used. Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Cool on rack and frost with icing.
Makes approx. 2 dozen cookies.

For frosting: Beat butter, add almond extract. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. Whip until fluffy, adding a teaspoon of milk and/or sour cream to desired consistency. Frost generously!
