Mom's Divinity
2 egg whites
2½ cups sugar
½ cup water
½ cup corn syrup
Optional flavorings: 1 cup Black Walnuts chopped, or ½ Maraschino Cherries chopped and ½ cup chopped pecans. Any combination
Betty Crocker Divinity:
2⅔ cup sugar
⅔ cup corn syrup
½ cup water
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla
⅔ cup coarsely chopped nuts.

Directions:
Directions:
Cook sugar, water and corn syrup to crackle stage. (Crackle stage is a thread of cooked syrup that spins thread in cup of cold water and can be cracked by fingers.) or 260º on candy thermometer. Beat egg whites to stiff. Pour ½ of mixture by slow stream into beaten egg whites stirring constantly. Cook remaining syrup. Pour over egg whites beating constantly. For best results use stand mixer. May become to stiff for mixer to beat.
Optional:
Beat 1 cup black walnuts chopped or ½ cup maraschino cherries chopped and 1/2 cup pecans. Beat until mixture holds shape when dropped from spoon onto wax paper. Drop candy onto wax paper. Moving quickly. Don't attempt on rainy days.
