Tomato Sauce
---------------------------
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 c. olive oil
2 (15 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 c. water
1 lb. ground beef

Cheese sauce
--------------------
1 small onion, minced
4 Tbsp. butter
3 T. flour
¾c. grated parmesan cheese
2 c. milk
2 egg yolks


1 lb. egg bows

Make sauce.

Saute onions and garlic in oil. Add ground beef and brown. Add tomato paste and cook for a couple of minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, bay leaves, salt, pepper and water. Cover and cook on low at least 45 minutes.

Make cheese sauce.

Saute onions in butter until translucent. Mix in flour and cook for a minute or two. Add parmesan and a dash of salt. Gradually add milk and cook over low heat until thick and simmer on low about 10 minute.


Cook bow ties until tender. Layer bow ties, tomato sauce, and cheese sauce ending with the cheese sauce.

Bake 20 minutes (or until heated through). Set oven to broil and broil until the top is lightly browned and bubbly.

I don't remember Mom making traditional lasagna very often. I do remember having this all the time.
