Ingredients: 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp baking powder 4 Tbsp shortening 3/4 cup milk 2 apples 1 Tbsp sugar butter, pat
1 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter 1 cup water

Directions: |
Directions:Preheat oven to 350ºF. Cut shortening into dry ingredients until mealy. Add milk but try not to use it all, just until dough leaves sides of pan and can be handled. Turn onto floured board and divide into four. Pat or roll out. Pare, core, and slice apples and place in center of dough (about 1/2 medium apple per dumpling). Add 1 Tbsp sugar and a pat of butter. Dampen edges and seal. Repeat for each dumpling. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.. Remove and pour syrup over tops of dumplings. Bake for 45 minutes. Baste several times during the baking time.
SYRUP: Bring sugar, butter and water to boil. Boil for 5 minutes. |

Notes: NOTE: Last time I made these I made 1 1/2 times the dough but only made 4 dumplings. This avoided the holes I often get and allowed me to add more apples. Used the same amount of sauce.
