Chop 2 C walnuts coarsely; set aside for topping.
Chop 1/2 cup walnuts fine for bottom layer.
Combine flour, brown sugar and butter, blend to fine crumbs.
Add coconut and finely chopped nuts.
Set aside C of mixture.
Pack remainder in bottom of greased 9x13x2 baking pan.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 min, until edges are lightly browned.
Soften cream cheese and beat in sugar, egg and vanilla.
Continue beating until smooth.
Spread over hot baked layer and bake 8-10 min. longer.
Spread cherry pie filling over cheese layer.
Sprinkle with coarse nuts and reserved crumbs.
Bake 15 min. longer.
Cool before cutting
