Use about 1 qt tomatoes

1 ½ cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
¾ tsp salt
3 TB shortening
¾ cup milk

Have tomatoes boiling slowly. Drop dumplings, cook 10 min uncovered, then 10 min covered.

Never Fail Dumplings

2 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 egg
milk

Break egg in a cup and fill with milk. Beat it and pour it into the dry ingredients. Beat a little and let stand 5 minutes. Drop into the boiling tomatoes and cook 20 min with cover on.
