Meatballs
1 ½ pounds ground beef
½ pound ground Italian sausage
1 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp. minced garlic
1 ½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 tsp Italian seasoning (or can use basil alone)
1 tbsp dried Parsley or 1/4 cup fresh parsley







Sauce Ingredients:
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds (optional)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Preheat oven to 350º
Combine all ingredients with hands. Do not overmix
Form meatballs- 1 ½ to 1 ¾ inch diameter
Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake 20-25 minutes. Check after 20 minutes. Can check with meat thermometer: 185º

Sauce directions
In a Dutch oven onion, and garlic over medium heat for 2 minutes.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.
Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley.
Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Add meatballs to sauce.

If you don't want to make homemade sauce, I use a very large jar of traditional style Prego.

I often buy an extra jar of sauce, even if I make homemade sauce because there never seems to be enough sauce.

I double the recipe-depending on how many people I am serving
