Mom's Sweet Pickles Recipe

2 gal. Small cucumbers
2 2/3 c. Salt
1 1/2 gal. Water
1 oz. Alum

Syrup:
1 qt. water 1 oz. celery seed
2 T Mustard seed
1 T Whole cloves
1 oz. Stick cinnamon
2 c. Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve salt in water. Place cucumbers into the brine and let stand for 8 days, stirring every other day. if skim raises, skim off with a spoon. On the 9th day wash and cover with boiling water. on the 10th day drain and pour boiling water with Alum dissolved in it. on the 11th day. Drain and cover with boiling water. On day 12 drain and cover with boiling syrup.

On day 13 drain syrup and bring to a boil. Adding 2 c. sugar. pour over hot pickles. On day 14 repeat day 13 steps. adding 2 more c. sugar. On day 15 repeat day 13 process. adding another 2 c. sugar. Put into bottles then cover with hot syrup.
