½ cup shortening
1 ½ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
¼ cup nuts
1 tsp baking soda
¾ tsp salt
½ cup buttermilk*
1 cup mashed bananas

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and bananas. Stir in nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan; bake in a 350° oven
for 65 minutes.

*To make a substitute for buttermilk, combine 1 Tbsp lemon juice with 1 cup milk and allow to set for 5 minutes before using.
