1¼ cups shortening
1½ cups sugar
4 egg yolks
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tsp. baking powder
3 cups flour
1¼ cups milk
4 egg whites, beaten stiff
½ cup walnuts (optional)

Topping:
½ cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add to creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Carefully fold in the egg whites. Pour into a greased and floured angel food cake pan. Top with cinnamon and sugar.

Bake at 350º for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Even though this cake is in an angel food cake pan DO NOT hang upside down to cool.
