2 c boiling water
2 c brown sugar
4 Tbsp lard
1 lb seedless raisins
2 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp allspice
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp baking soda + 1 Tbsp lukewarm water
3 c flour

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Place boiling water, brown sugar, lard, raisins, cloves, allspice and cinnamon together in a saucepan.
3. Boil about 5 minutes then let cool.
4. When cooled to room temperature, add the baking soda and lukewarm water.
5. Stir in the flour.
6. Pour into greased and floured cake pan.
7. Bake for 45 minutes.
