Melt: 1 cup butter in 2quart saucepan over low heat

Stir in: 1 cup sugar
2 tbsp. grated lemon rind
2 tbsp. grated orange rind
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. orange juice
2 egg yolks (reserve whites)
1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
½ tsp. salt

Blend in: 3 to 3½ cups sifted flour; mix well.

Shape into balls using a rounded teaspoonful for each. Dip in slightly beaten egg whites and then into finely chopped pecans (abut 2 cups)

Place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly.

Top each with a piece of candied cherry, maraschino cherry or pecan halves.

Bake at 375º for 12 to 15 minutes.

For more colorful holiday cookies use some green and some red candied cherries on cookie tops.
