Bread:
1½ cups flour
½ cup sugar
1 beaten egg
½ cup butter
½ cup molasses
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 tsp ground ginger
½ cup boiling water

Lemon Sauce:
1 lemon
1 cup sugar
1 egg
½ stick butter
2 heaping tbsp cornstarch
1 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
Blend bread ingredients and pour in a greased, floured pan. Bake in 375º oven 30 minutes. Roll lemon on hard counter and squeeze it for 10 seconds, grate rind off. Collect juice. Combine sugar and corn starch and mix while dry. Pour in water, butter and egg and mix. Put on range and stir until butter melts. Add lemon juice and peel until real “lemony” (2 tbsp or more).

Aunt Lizzie was Big Daddy’s sister. This is the only recipe for gingerbread. Period. Be sure and make the sauce with it.
