Scant 1 C butter (do not substitute)
½ C water
2 ½ C flour
½ C Half and Half
1 C English Walnuts, chopped
2 C powdered sugar
1 C Maraschino Cherries, drained well and sliced or chopped some but still in pieces
1 tsp vanilla
3 egg whites stiffly beaten

Grease and flour an angle food or bundt pan.

Preheat over to 325º

In a bowl mix the cherries and nuts with a little of the flour that is called for in the recipe and set aside.

Cream the powdered sugar and butter, at room temperature. Mix the Half and half with water. Add the milk mixture alternately with the remaining flour beginning and ending with the milk mixture and beat well. Fold in the beaten egg whites and cherries and nut mixture. Divide evenly between the pan.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake top comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Invert on a serving platter. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar or use any icing of your choice. A simple powdered sugar icing is just fine on this cake
