4 slices white bread, crusts removed
½ c milk
4 Tbsp butter
1 small onion, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 lb lean ground beef
1 egg, beaten
¼ c shredded Parmesan cheese
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp basil
½ tsp thyme
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
¼ tsp pepper
4 c prepared tomato sauce
6-8 hoagie rolls
16 slices of Provolone cheese

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Rip bread into bite-size pieces and place in a bowl. Pour milk over and set aside for 10 minutes.

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool 5 minutes. In a bowl, combine onions and garlic with beef, egg, cheese and spices (parsley through pepper).

Spray a cookie sheet with oil. With hands, form a 2-inch meatball. Place on cookie sheet. Repeat until all meatballs are formed. Bake 30 minutes.

While meatballs are cooking, bring tomato sauce to simmer. When meatballs are baked, use a spoon to place into the hot sauce. Simmer 10 minutes.

Serve 3 meatballs with sauce on each hoagie roll. Top with 2 slices of cheese.

(Alternatively, serve meatballs and sauce over spaghetti noodles.)
