1 c. sugar
1. c. flour
2 T. butter
3/4 c. milk
2 t. baking powder
1/8 t. salt
2 c. gooseberries
1 more c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, flour and butter.
Add milk baking powder and salt.
Mix.
Pour batter into baking dish.
Spread gooseberries on top of batter.
Sprinkle on 1 c. (more or less) sugar
Add a short cup of hot water over all.
Bake at 350 deg. for 30-45 minutes in a square baking dish..

If using frozen berries it will take longer to bake than if you thaw them ahead.

I had a dear Aunt Dorothy who had gooseberry bushes on her farm. She baked the first gooseberry pie I ever tasted. I love gooseberry pie. This cobbler is quicker to fix for the same flavor when I am short on time or ambition.
