1 c. chopped dates
1 c. water
1 t. soda
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1/2 t. salt
1 t. baking powder
2 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates with water and soda. Boil 2 minutes.
Mix sugar, shortening, eggs, vanilla, salt, baking powder, and flour.
Stir in date mixture.
Bake in 9x13 pan for 30 min at 350
Add topping.
Broil to brown.

4 tb. butter
2 tb. cream

Cook 2 minutes. Spread on cake. Sprinkle with nuts. Broil to brown.
