½ cup sugar
½ cup butter
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2½ cup flour
1½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cloves
½ tsp. salt
1 cup hot water

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour a 9 inch square pan
Cream together sugar and butter. Beat in egg and molasses. In a bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Blend into the creamed mixture. Stir in hot water. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 1 hour until knife inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool before serving.

Note: I use a 9x11 pan and bake only 50 minutes.

Gingerbread is delicious when serve cold, topped by applesauce and whipped cream.
