3 c. brown sugar
3 or 4 T. flour
3 c. water
2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. dates, chopped into small pieces
1 lb. chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first three ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla, dates, and walnuts. Allow to set overnight.

This dessert was a tradition in our family at Christmas for as long as I can remember. My grandmother, Eva Wachtel, always made it; then either my mom or Aunt Mary carried on the tradition. It is SUPER rich so a little goes a long way. They always served it topped with real whipped cream.
