1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon soda dissolved in 1 teaspoon hot water
2 cups oatmeal
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 package of chocolate chips

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugars. Mix in eggs, blend well. Mix in soda/hot water and vanilla. Add flour and salt mix well. Blend in oatmeal and chips. Drop by rounded tablespoons on baking sheet. Bake at 350º for 8-10 minutes till light brown.

I can remember these cookies fresh out of the oven when us kids would get off the school bus. These cookies freeze well. In the picture are Aunt Naomi Seeymyer, Great Grandma Holmes, mom, and myself. I believe we were at a Rebecka Lodge function. Aunt Naomi held many different offices over the years.
