½ cup shortening
½ cup cocoa

2 eggs
1 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla

½ tsp. salt
3½ cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º

Cream: sugar, shortening, and cocoa

Add: eggs and vanilla

Alternately add milk and dry ingredients

Drop by scoops on cookie sheet

They should spread out and be about ¾ inches high

Bake 10 minutes

When cool, turn them over and frost flatter side

These are the closest things to those yummy store-bought half-moons. Getting the texture just right to have them flatten out is sometimes tough, but they taste good whether they're flat or puffy. Just frost the cooled cookies - one side with white frosting, the other with chocolate to make the half-moons. Ida was a church friend. We were at her Christmas party when I went into labor to have Nora.
