1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 bottles red food coloring
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and mix. Add food coloring, flour, salt, and soda. Add buttermilk alternately with the flour. Bake in 9x13 pan at 350º for 30-35 m9nutes.

French Cream Frosting
5 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cook flour and milk, stir until thick. Cool.
Cream butter and sugar. Add milk and flour mixture small amounts at a time
Beat until smooth.

Purity Bakery was on the square in Lancaster, Wi. I have memories of all the baked goods there. Mom would take an empty bottle and the ladies at bakery would fill it full of vanilla. Mom always said that was the best vanilla.
