3 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon anise flavoring
1 teaspoon red or green food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
In a large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Cook on medium high heat until candy thermometer reads 300 degrees 9hard-crack stage) stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in flavoring and food coloring. Keep face away from mixture as odor is very strong. Immediately pour onto an oiled cookie sheet. Cool. Break into pieces. Store in air tight container.

I can remember that mom would make two batches. One red with anise flavoring and a green one with wintergreen flavoring. This is one of my favorite pictures of mom. She is enjoying a special moment with her great granddaughter Janie. Mom and Dad loved all the time that they were able to spend with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
