½ cup warm water
2 pgs dry yeast (soak for 5 minutes)

3½ cups water, milk or potato water
¼ cup white sugar
2 T salt
¼ cup shortening
11-12 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine liquid with sugar and salt. Beat in 4 cups of flour, yeast and shortening. Beat well. Add remaining flour and knead until dough becomes smooth and elastic.

Let rise until doubled. (1-1½ hours)

Punch down and let rise again. Make into four loaves of bread. Let rise in pans, then bake at 350º for 50 minutes.
