1 quart of potatoes thinly sliced
1 onion
1 quart of water
milk

Optional: browned diced bacon or ham

Directions:
Directions:
Boil until tender. Add 1 pint of milk. Season with salt and pepper.

Mom always made this with hard dumplings:

1 egg, beaten
a splash of milk
flour

Add flour until mixture is thick and not runny. Drop by teaspoonfuls into boiling soup. Cook for 10 minutes.
