1 cup white sugar
4 egg whites
½ cup butter
1 tsp vanilla or lemon
1 ½ cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ cup sour milk (to sour milk, take 1 cup milk and add 1 T vinegar, wait a little while)

Dark part:

4 egg yolks
½ cup molasses
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cloves
½ tsp mace
½ tsp nutmeg
2 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup butter
1 cup sour milk
1 cup chopped raisins
1 tsp soda, dissolved in boiling water

Place by spoonfuls into pan alternately. Bake for 30 minutes at 350º.
