½ c. soft butter
½ c. brown sugar
1 egg separated
½ tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
¼ tsp. salt
¾ c. chopped nuts
jelly or tinted decorating icing

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly mix butter, flour, egg yolk, and vanilla. Sift together flour and salt. Stir into butter mixture. Roll dough into small balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll coated balls in nuts. place 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Gently press thumb into center of cookie being careful not to go the whole way to the bottom. Bake at 350º 10-12 minutes. Cool. Fill thumbprint with your choice of jelly or tinted icing.
