1½ cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
5 cups flour
1½ tsp baking powder
¾ tsp salt

Directions:
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix flour, baking powder and salt together and add to butter mixture. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).

Preheat oven to 400º. Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake 6-8 minutes until set. Cool complete before decorating.
